Meeting of the Director of the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Saidov with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania Romeo Stanciu

On July 3, 2018, the Director of the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Saidov held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania Romeo Stanciu. 

The aim - to discuss prospects of bilateral cooperation in the field of human rights protection.

Welcoming the participants of the meeting, A. Saidov informed about the results of the webinar with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein with the students of educational institutions held on June 26, 2018, as well as participation in the 38th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

To the attention of the Romanian side, information was also provided on the submission by the Republic of Uzbekistan in May of this year the Third National Report in the framework of the Universal Periodic Review (“UPR”) to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the joint briefing of the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the UNDP Office in Uzbekistan on informing the diplomatic corps and government authorities on the outcome of the consideration of the Third National Report under the UPR of the HRC held on 23 May of this year in the city of Tashkent.

At the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his interest regarding conditions created in Uzbekistan, for the development of civil society; strengthen the role of NGOs in the reform process.

Within the framework of the meeting, issues of further deepening of Uzbek-Romanian relations in the development field of parliamentary development, as well as ensuring the observance and protection of human rights were discussed, including through the establishment of bilateral cooperation between national human rights institutions of Uzbekistan and Romania.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to establish bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The meeting was held in a constructive spirit.

The guest received new publications from the Centre on the issues of protection of human rights.
