Special attention to human rights and freedomsOn May 23, Tashkent hosted Uzbekistan – Germany legal forum dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany. The event was organized by the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the representative office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Uzbekistan.

The forum on “Constitutional development trends of Uzbekistan and Germany” was attended by deputies of the Legislative Chamber and members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of ministries and agencies, law enforcement agencies, scientific and educational, civil society institutions, the media, international organizations, diplomatic corps, as well as foreign experts.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoyev addressed the forum.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany Günter Overfeld expressed his confidence that this forum would become very useful for the participants.

Views were expressed on the constitutional legislation of Germany and that the Basic Law of this country played an important role in development of the Constitution of Uzbekistan.

The Basic Law of Germany and the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan have many common features. In both constitutions, priority is given to freedom and human rights.

The forum also included the presentation of books “The Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany” in Uzbek and German and the “Constitutional journey to Germany” in Russian.
