PRESS RELEASE
March 3, 2025, the 143rd session of the UN Human Rights Committee officially began its work in Geneva. The fact that for the first time, a representative of Uzbekistan - Academician Akmal Saidov, elected to this authoritative UN body for the period 2025-2028, is participating in the work of the Committee is of particular importance for this session.
For reference: A. Saidov was elected a member of the Committee by secret ballot at the 40th session of the member states of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, held on May 29, 2024, in New York.
The inclusion of a representative of Uzbekistan in the Committee represents an important stage in recognizing the country's efforts to promote human rights and strengthen democratic institutions. Within the framework of the 143rd session, the Committee members will review the national reports of 14 countries (Albania, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Mongolia, Montenegro, Zimbabwe, Chad, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Jordan, Mauritius, New Zealand, Samoa), analyze the implementation of international standards, and develop recommendations for strengthening global human rights protection mechanisms. The session's agenda includes discussing pressing issues such as ensuring freedom of speech, the right to a fair trial, and protecting vulnerable groups.
The participation of a representative of Uzbekistan in the work of the Committee underscores the growing role of the country in international human rights processes. In recent years, Uzbekistan has demonstrated its commitment to the principles of the rule of law and the protection of human rights, which has received high praise from the world community.
The 143rd session, which will last until the end of March 2025, is expected to become a platform for constructive dialogue and the development of strategic approaches to protecting human rights and freedoms worldwide.
