On May 13, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation of proposals to strengthen seismic safety measures.
Large-scale construction projects are underway across the country. Since 2017, 11,410 apartment buildings have been constructed, contributing to resolving housing issues and improving living conditions for the population.
Seismology, one of the most critical areas in construction, is also actively developing. Special attention is paid to cooperation with international scientific centers and introducing innovative technologies. Moreover, Uzbekistan is taking the lead in several areas of international cooperation in this field.

As is well known, on April 29, 1966, a devastating earthquake struck Tashkent. In this regard, the President of Uzbekistan initiated the establishment of a Day of Remembrance and Solidarity to honor the memory of earthquake victims and to underscore the importance of international cooperation in this area. In recognition of this initiative, the United Nations General Assembly recently adopted a resolution declaring April 29 as the International Day in Memory of the Victims of Earthquakes.
To align with international standards in this field, the Head of State emphasized the need to pay greater attention to the quality of new construction. In this context, measures are being taken to improve the earthquake resistance of apartment buildings and ensure the population’s safety during seismic activity.
In particular, on-site studies have been conducted with the participation of specialists from state design institutes. Based on the results of these studies and the analysis of seismic conditions in different regions, proposals have been developed to improve the national seismic safety system.

A new practice will be introduced for building assessments with the involvement of international experts. The exchange of experience in constructing residential buildings resistant to earthquakes and other natural disasters will be expanded. In addition, instrumental and technical inspections of buildings are planned to identify and eliminate structural deficiencies.
Based on the results of these efforts and considering international experience, amendments will be made to regulatory documents concerning seismic risk assessment, impact, and threat evaluation.
The President emphasized that quality and safety in construction must remain top priorities and gave instructions to advance scientific research in this field and implement modern approaches across the industry.
