Report on activities to develop sports and the Olympic Movement

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with information about the ongoing work to develop mass sports and expand the Olympic Movement.

Sports are widely developing in Uzbekistan and are essential in strengthening the population’s health and raising a healthy generation. The necessary infrastructure consists of stadiums, training halls and workout grounds, running tracks, sports schools, and complexes.

The number of sports fans is expanding thanks to physical education in mahallas, regional competitions, and the Five Initiatives Olympiad. At the same time, talented and promising young people are selected, and qualified professional athletes are trained.

The State Program for implementing the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy in the Year of Support for Youth and Business identifies many tasks in this area. In accordance with these standards, educational institutions are provided with primary sports equipment. The time spent using stadiums and other sports grounds in mahallas has been extended. To attract 10 million people to mass sports, marathons and competitions in football, volleyball, table tennis, chess, checkers, running, and kurash are held locally.

Work was also noted to expand conditions for sports in the regions, digitalize breeding processes, and develop best practices.

The Head of state was also provided with information on the progress of preparations for the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games.

As is known, this prestigious tournament will be held from July 26 to August 11 in Paris, France. More than 10,000 athletes from 206 countries will attend the event.

90 athletes in 19 sports will represent Uzbekistan. In addition to the sports in which our athletes are traditionally strong, this year, they received qualifications for football, diving, archery, and women’s wrestling for the first time. In addition, 36 percent of Uzbekistan’s Olympians are women.

Uzbekistan teams have prepared for the upcoming games at a high level. Each athlete was given an individual strategy, and their participation in qualifying competitions and local and foreign training events was ensured. The necessary conditions for training have been created in 15 Olympic and Paralympic centers and sports bases in the regions. Regular in-depth medical examinations of athletes were also carried out, and systematic measures were taken for medical, biological, and pharmacological support.

The Head of state wished our athletes success at the Olympic Games. Responsible persons were instructed on the selection and support of talented youth and the formation of a high-quality reserve for national teams.
