Meeting with the Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia for the International Committee of the Red Cross

12 September 2019 - Director of the National Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Saidov held a meeting with the the Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), M.Schüepp.
 
The following representatives of ICRC attended the meeting: Nicolas Fleury, operations coordinator, Europe and Central Asia, Headquarters in Geneva; Jean-Jerome Casabianca, Head of the Regional Delegation of the ICRC in Central Asia; Max Furrer, regional protection coordinator, the Regional Delegation of the ICRC in Central Asia; Marat Aminov, legal adviser of the Regional Delegation of the ICRC in Central Asia. 
 
The purpose of the meeting was to familiarize with the activities of the Center, discuss the perspectives of cooperation on human rights, as well as discuss the resumption of visits by the ICRC delegation of penitentiary institutions of Uzbekistan.
 
The guest expressed his gratitude for the reception and noted that the ICRC highly appreciates the efforts of Uzbekistan in carrying out recent democratic reforms on building civil society and ensuring human rights and freedoms in the country.
 
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to establish bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
 
The guest received new publications from the Centre on the issues of protection of human rights, international human rights and humanitarian law as well as souvenirs. 
 
The meeting was held in a constructive spirit.
