In 2025, the international community will widely celebrate the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. This historic document was adopted in September 1995 at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing by 189 states and has played a crucial role in advancing women’s rights, promoting gender equality, and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
In an official communication sent to member states by the headquarters of UN Women, it was proposed that, within the framework of the “Beijing+30” program (marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action), countries define their national voluntary commitments.
Voluntary commitments are political pledges undertaken by states on their own initiative. They do not carry binding legal force, but they demonstrate the willingness of governments to take practical steps in such priority areas as protecting women’s rights, promoting gender equality, expanding access to education and healthcare, ensuring women’s equal participation in decision-making processes, and advancing climate justice.
The National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights has appealed to all government bodies with a request to develop mechanisms of measures in one or two areas out of the six priorities defined under the “Beijing+30” program, and to submit the relevant proposals.
Priority areas of the “Beijing+30” program:
- Digital Revolution – reducing the digital gender gap and ensuring equal access of women to technologies and innovations.
- Poverty Eradication – reducing women’s poverty through social protection, education, healthcare, and the creation of “green” jobs.
- Zero Tolerance for Violence – adoption and implementation of legislation as well as national action plans to eliminate violence against women.
- Full and Equal Right to Decision-Making – ensuring equal representation and participation of women at all levels of government and public life.
- Peace and Security – implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, and support for local women’s organizations.
- Climate Justice – active participation of women, especially from rural and indigenous communities, in processes of environmental sustainability and the “green” economy.
For these priority areas, you may submit your proposals in accordance with the form provided in the annex.
The above proposals should be submitted to the National Center for Human rights no later than September 1, 2025, to the following email address: info@nhrc.uz.
