Director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, Academician Akmal Saidov officially began to fulfill his duties as a member of the UN Human Rights Committee from January 1, 2025.
In this regard, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk sent an official congratulatory message to the representative of Uzbekistan. The text of the message, in particular, notes:
"Sir, I congratulate You on your election on May 29, 2024, at the 40th session of the Member States of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to the membership of the UN Human Rights Committee for 2025-2028. I would like to assure you that the UN Office under my leadership fully supports the work of the UN Committee, of which you are a member, and all other UN treaty bodies on human rights. I wish you success and success in your activities from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2028."
This message highlights the high level of respect and recognition of the UN High Commissioner to Academician Akmal Saidov, as well as the importance of his election to the UN Human Rights Committee. This election, for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, was a significant result of the purposeful and pragmatic foreign policy strategy of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The strategy, based on the principles of constructive dialogue with international structures, ensures the promotion of the global agenda of human rights, as well as the strengthening of mutual trust and cooperation.
